no power/stops pulling after 3-4000 rpm??

Stock 305 TPI. If I floor it, it pulls pretty strong to about 3000 rpm. Then it starts to get weak. By 4000 rpm it has pretty much stopped pulling, the rpms climb real slow, it sits there at about 4500 for a second or two and then reluctantly will shift. Then the rpms drop to 2000 or so, it pulls strong again and then at about 3000 rpm the whole process starts all over.
I thought I had a tranny problem (governor or something) that was keeping it from shifting; however, something is clearly happening to hold this motor back above about 3k rpm or so.
I have already replaced all of the injectors, fuel filter, cap, rotor, plugs, and wires. The fuel pump was replaced before I got the car about 3 years ago.
Any ideas or suggestions on what to check at this point. Anyone ever had this happen before?
(I know TPI motors are not high rpm motors, but this is not normal).

sounds like the catalytic converter may be partly
plugged if you still have that in place

good idea, but...the one on there now is fairly new. I'll check it though just in case. If it isn't the converter, what else could be causing this strange problem? I have done a internet search as well as a TGO search and have come up pretty much empty handed.

about 50k on the engine. I agree with 2.73's it may take a little longer to wind up, but, this is just plain abnormal. I think it in unlikely to be a converter simply because it isn't that old, so I am tryin to figure out what else it could be....... fuel pressure issue?

check and make sure all your important sensors are good
? cts? egr? hows your ignition system old/new? fuel filter/duel pump?injectors?fuel pressure reg.? maybe its something as silly as one of these things mine acted similar only mine was far worse stalled at stops ...rich fuel mix...rough idle...i found that i had a bad cts,egr and 1 bad injector that was holding the car back...i dont know if any of this helps but i figured id share what helped me in a similar(not same) situation
