Will this combination be ok?
Hi all,
Im in a situation where I have a 406ci motor, with 210 full CNC ported heads, JE pistons which give 8.5:1 compression. The reason for this, is that the motor is built for the procharger I have. At the moment, Im not going to use the blower or EFI setup I have, mainly because of the cost of finishing the whole project.
I want to now run it N/A with a carb. I was thinking of using a Performer RPM manifold with a Holley 750, this will keep things simple and costs down.
I do realise, this is not an ideally matched combination, but for now will this work adequately, or not?
Also I dont have the specs of the cam, but do know its a Lunati solid roller blower cam.
Any help would be much appreciated.

With a solid roller and that low of compression that motor is going to be a dog just get yourself a mild hyd cam if your going to run it with out the procharger.

Thanks, I sort of guessed that, I will be using the blower in the future, so what spec of cam would be a good idea?

It's a 406 so you will use a fairly large cam anyway, but with 8.5 compression I would stay below 220 degrees .050 duration. Use wide LSA(110-112 degrees) to reduce overlap. Less overlap will help low speed drivability. Go high lift as possible to maximize cylinder filling for the best power.

Thanks, this is really helpful
Can you think of an off the shelf pattern that would be good? I looked at a Comp cams 268 cam.

that should work. Just make sure the springs you have on the heads are not going to kill the cam only takes a few min. to change them any way.

What he said. An old trick we used to use was to remove the inner of our dual springs for the break in. also, use a good break in oil with added zinc to prevent early lobe failure. God I love roller cams.

Re: Will this combination be ok?
So if I came up with the cash for a hydraulic roller cam, could I keep the springs I have?
