Backfiring issues. Please help ASAP
I have a '91 Camaro with a 3.1 V6, While car is in park & i throttle the car, she backfires. While in drive & i give her gas she bogs down a little bit. Can someone please help. I do have a small exhaust leak where previous owner cut out cat converter & welded straight pipe. Would this little issue be my problem?

Backfires through the exhaust or intake?
Have you checked for vacuum leaks? Fuel pressure?

ok the diagram im showing is the firing order for my 3.1 Camaro. Thankx to 85SportCoupeto89RS for the diagram. Where number 3 is is where my number 1 is. Without removing or moving the distributor i moved the spark plug wires from where they were to where they should be. It got alot worse! So i put the spark plug wires back to the way they were. where number 3 is on the diagram is where my number 1 is & count 2,3,4,5,6 goin around from there. so 1 is where 3 is, 2 at 4, 3 at 5, 4 at 6, 5 at 1, 6 at 2 & the funny thing is........ It started right up without a problem. So like i said, the way i fixed my timing issue is weird.

I bought a car once with similar trimming issues, but it was due to timing chain stretch and a fugded dizzy install. The exhaust leak shouldnt cause a huge backfire if its minor. It also shouldnt cause a bog under load. IMHO, you need to install the dizzy and wires correctly to insure correct ignition timing.

ok i just took her on her first test run since tranny was rebuilt, EGR valve replaced & timing close. i still feel timing might be a hair off & i'm having a tiny bit late of a throttle response. I wasn't really able to put full throttle to the floor bcuz of neighborhood but while in park the car does have a tiny back fire. i could be mistaking it for a misfire. i'm going to record the sounds & post on youtube so u can hear. But i know for a fact that i do have two small exhaust leaks at each end of the welding where the previous owner cut out cat converter.

That's how mine acted when my fuel pump went out. Changed it and was good to go. never had a problem with it backfiring or bogging.

I thought you'd checked it already when you said it seemed ok.
Any parts store should have one. Even Sears. Ask for a fuel pressure gauge. Make sure it can register over 60psi. There's a low pressure variety for carbed motors that will not work for your application.
