When is an Engine Oil Cooler useful and why might someone need one?

I notice either trucks or sports cars have engine oil coolers but other cars with similar v8s do not.

For instance the corvette has one standard but the camaro does not.

Not all vettes have a KC4 engine cooler standard, a lot of camaros did get one. All mine have one.
