My nitemare 89

I bought my 89 TA back about a year ago,and it has given me fits ever since. It sat in a garage for over 9 yr. For starters, anyone have an idea why the ign control mod would keep frying? I can put one in and start the car several times, even let is run for 30 min, then the next time I start it it might run a few sec then die, with no spark again.Ive already replaced the ign switch,so its not a wiring problem thru the str. col. New batt, plug wires, dist cap, rotor, plugs, coil, even a new dist.. No codes showing up. Helllllllllp Anbd yes,I did put the silicone on the ign mod !!

Is your ign. properly grounded? And have you checked for a short to ground in the ignition circuit?

Re: My nitemare 89

All grounds are good, and there is no short to ground. I have been working on cars, etc for over 30 yr but this one seems to stump me. I love this car but GM/Pontiac dropped the ball on this one.

A few hits:

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/elec...-2-cooked.html

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tech...-ignition.html

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/elec...e-failure.html

You may want to PM some of these and other posters who are still around to see if they solved their ICM probs. There are several posts reporting repeat failure that are not concluded.
