Using a three wire headlight motor in 87 + firebirds
Hello all, I recently bought a headlight motor, and when it arrived I looked it over and realized it was the wrong style, a three wire motor.I knew I had a two wire motor bit accidentally bought the wrong one.so instead of buying another motor I figured I should just try and make it work.only bad thing was I couldn't find much useful information, mostly people saying it either can't or shouldn't be done.well I know for a fact now that it can be done, and it works fine.I figured since I couldn't find much useful information I'd start a thread with details on how Its done.all you need are cutting pliers, 10 mm socket and ratchet, some solder, electrical tape, and basic mechanical abilities.first off, cut off the three wire connector, leaving as much wire on the motor side as possible.cut off the two wire connector (or buy one from advance auto) with as much wire left to play with as possible.then take the grey and blue wires on the motor, and solder them to the green wire from the two wire connector. Then solder the two remaining wires together, and voila! You can now hookup the headlight motor an it will work fine.this might be a useless thread, but I know it woulda saved me alot of time before I started looking up wiring schematics and stuff like that.
