TAPPING COMING FROM UNDER VAVLE COVER????????

Hey guys i thing i know why it is making the tapping sound and this is what i suspect from reading previous forums when i first bought the car (a week ago) the engine was running fine no sounds only thing was the carb was shot it wasn't shooting enough gas an a valcume line in front that was connected to it was broke off and i brought my mechanic with me and he said he had one that would fit right up on it so i said ok brought it home he put it on and it kinda worked but it was running WAY to rich (black smoke cumming from exhaust and there was this tapping noise coming from under the valve cover on the right side so i did some research on here and it said that condensation in the oil (which had just been changed when i bought it) so im assuming that since the car was running way to rich its got gas in with the oil and causing a lifter to get stuck... (CORRECT MY IF IM WRONG PLEASE)

So my question is if im right can i put the oil treatment stuff in with the oil thats in the car now or do i have to change the oil put the treatment in then change it again after that does its magic lol?????

(sorry it was long but i wanted to give enough details)

Re: TAPPING COMING FROM UNDER VAVLE COVER????????

I'd drain a bit of oil, maybe 1/2 quart, then add a can of SeaFoam to the oil if you suspect a stuck lifter. Then drive it - it needs to be driven several hundred miles at least to get that SeaFoam worked into that lifter and begin to clean it - maybe it'll unstick, maybe it won't.

But first, I'd pop a valve cover off and make sure that there aren't any severely bent push rods, or that a pushrod didn't pop out, etc. Start it and run it with the valve cover off so you can see the valvetrain action and make sure it's all good. Can also adjust that valve lash on the one making noise and see if that helps.

ok well i think imma just go with the marvel mystery oil in the engine body first and see how that works out for me then if not that then i will open the valve cover and investigate but thanks its just seems like every one that tried the sea foam didn't really seem to work (well from what i have read) but thanks alot

Another option I see mentioned alot is Rislone - it's on the shelf everywhere as well - another add to the oil in hopes the lifter unsticks product.
