2.8L automatic stalling
I am having random stalling problems with my 88 2.8l automatic. It only does it occasionally. It will idle fine then at a stop light the rpms dip down a couple times then it stalls. i can start i right back up and good to go for another couple stop lights. Also, when I drive the car until she is warm and then go into a store and come back out the car does not start on the first try but always on the second try. I need some help.
Here is what I did so far:
New plug wires
cleaned the maf sensor
new alternator

Re: 2.8L automatic stalling
Timing set right? The parts car I bought has a 2.8 and it occasionally was stalling. I played with the timing a little and it seems to run better. I also found a loose vacuum line. I'd check for those and make sure the EGR valve isn't stuck open.

Re: 2.8L automatic stalling
Could be a fuel pump going bad, but not likely. Usually fuel pumps either work or they don't, no gray area.
Re: 2.8L automatic stalling
Hey I have a 305 TBI auto that does the same thing, Ti runs fine but randomly at stops it will sometimes stall out, it too starts right up again. What im doing Right now is right before I stop I put it in neutral, then when the light turns green I give it the faintest pedal of gas and it works good( I know this isnt the best thing to do). Is their any ideas on this?

Re: 2.8L automatic stalling
Here is an interesting thing I noticed while examining my engine. I was looking over the TPS and throttle in general and noticed the TPS plug was not seated completely in the connector. I tried several times to get it to fit correctly with no success. I then took off the green rubber grommet thingy and it fit very nice and snug all the way in. I then took it for a test drive a couple times and it did not stall at all. It still dropped occasionally down to 4-500 rpms but never stalled. Also, the hard start on the first try only happened once out of 4 times. Is this just a coincidence or did I actually fix a bug in the design, or did I break something...haha
