Milky light brown oil, car wont start have head/intake gaskets

I noticed im starting to get light brown oil when i was adjusting my valves. I just finished my head and intake gaskets a couple days ago so i dont understand why my oil is like that. Filled my rad with a 50/50 mix.

Brought the balancer to 6* on the timing tab at TDC compression stroke then set my distributor to the closest post .. My car started a couple times and continued to adjust valves till they stopped clacking, but now it wont start at all? It just turns over and will try to start at first. Any ideas on what the problem could be?

that color mean you have water in the oil.. been there in the process of rebuiling my engine now because of it

Not sure what it means that you "set my distributor to the closest point" - you want to be TDC compression stroke on #1 cylinder, then wherever rotor points has to be #1 plug wire, then you follow firing order clockwise on distributor.

Milky brown oil means coolant got mixed in - if you think this occurred during your intake/head gasket swap then just change the oil, otherwise your leaking coolant into the oil and need to look at redoing head or intake gaskets or both again.

The light brown oil is collecting on the rockers then just flows back down through the heads.

So it is possible that coolant could've gotten into my oil while taking the top of the motor apart? It was pretty messy. I'm going to change the oil tomorrow. Hopefully that solves it.

When I mean I set the distributor to the closest point, I just turned the dist to the closest post with the #1 plug wire. I have a feeling I did it wrong, because when i turn it counter clockwise the idle gets better, gets worse when I turn clockwise, it wont go any further counter clockwise then the #1 plug post which faces the #1 cylinder. Maybe rotate the wires another post? (My first time ever doing timing)

The car has A LOT of trouble starting.

Use a timing light. Disconnect the EST bypass connector along the firewall. Set the base timing at 6° BTDC. Shut off the engine and reconnect the EST wire. Restart the engine to allow the ECM to take control of timing. Call it done.

The factory installation of the distributor and wires has the #1 distributor post aimed almost directly at the #1 spark plug, but that is not critical if the distributor is not installed with the rotor in that position. Just check the rotor position with the crank at TDC and verify that the #1 wire is on the adjacent post, then connect the other wires in the proper firing order from that point.

Re: Milky light brown oil, car wont start have head/intake gaskets

Thanks vader, i did install the dist correctly then. The car runs a lot better, because i moved the wires counter clockwise by a post and was able to turn the dist more for adjustment. I think the car had to much advance.

Car idles around 750. For some reason im getting blue smoke at idle when i give it a rev. I just did valve seals a month ago!

Also changed my oil this morning, and let it drain for a bit till it wasnt dripping. My oil looks pretty good now.

I filled my rad and its full, is it normal for no coolant to be in the white coolant tank beside the rad even though i filled it?

The cooling system will suck coolant out of the resevoir tank as needed, so just refill the resevoir.

Ok, thanks!

Could the light blue smoke be because its not fine tuned? I have the car running sort of ok. Needs more tuning though. When i initially started it, it wouldn't smoke, as I kept adjusting timing it would start to smoke then suddenly go away?

Im still in a learning process. Plus I was in an accident last night, so all the help I can get to get this car working properly and on the road.
