just built a 383 what ignition system do i need
the engine has 11:1 compression ration Procomp 210cc heads 160 exhaust
summit cam with 4.88 5.10 lift 234 244 duration
hedman headers hedman y pipe dynomax exhaust
holley 670 dual feet carb vacuum secondarys
procomp intake manifold
accel distributer with the stock hei coil off my 305
stock wires for a 305
ngk vpower plugs
i was just wondering how do know when u need to upgrade the ingnition
system?
what kind of ignition system would i need or need to improve?
and any other tips would be greatly appretiated

Depends on the setup. If you're wanting to make the most power out of the combo and plan on carrying high RPMs it wouldn't be a bad idea to upgrade.
Coils do wear out over time. Depending on the coil brand and model it will have a certain number of turns in it. The more turns the higher the output.
I ran a MSD 6AL box with MSD 8 mm wires on my old stock 350 TPI. I'm running the same setup now on my 383 but I added an MSD distributor and a Blaster coil instead of the MSD GM Dual connector coil.
The thing about aftermarket ignition boxes they're suppose to provide a stronger spark and sometimes even a multiple spark for a better burn. You can also get nifty other features like rev limiters, timing adjustments, and etc.
Pretty old article but this will at least give you an idea of ignition boxes.

Most magazine sites are a good source for searching around on as they usually publish decent online articles with pictures.
