Starter wires ?

Long story but I have had the car apart for about 8yrs. I have finally got around to finishing it. I have the starter in but don't remember which wire goes where. There is a pair of wires with one loop connector and then a large wire with a loop. There is also a small loop. I know that goes on one of the small posts. I assume one of the large loops are ground and the other is hot. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Starter wires ?

I know this is going to be complicated, but... hang with me on it.

The big ring connectors, all of them however many there are, probably 2 or 3, go on the big terminal (there is only one), along with the red battery cable; and the little one goes on a little terminal.

Whew....

If you have more than one little terminal on the starter, it's the one closer to the engine block; might be labelled "S" under however much shmutz has accumuated there. The one it DOESN'T go on is labelled "R".

Whew that was complicated. Thanks, I thought thats how they went. There are two large posts. One is on the end of the starter motor itself. Its a nut with a lock washer. I wasn't sure if it was a ground. thanks

Re: Starter wires ?

The thing on the end of the starter motor isn't really a terminal at all; it's just the end of one of the long screws that holds the motor together. The stud end and nut are for the bracket that holds that end of the starter up to the block.

Re: Starter wires ?

Thanks, I just didn't want to short it out. This project has sort been looming for years. My kids are the ones pushing me to get it done. They are 4 and 9 the 9 year old got to ride in the car once but he was real little. Fuel pressure regulator failed pushed a bunch of fuel in the engine and I spun a main bearing in the motor, so I decided to build a 383. I had the trans rebuilt. Had a heck of a time with the trans cooler lines. I could not get them hooked back up. That has been the stall on this project. Finally after all this time I put in stainless braided lines with AN fittings. That wasn't easy but I could do it without cutting a hole in the floor or dropping the trans again. Hopefully it will run! I did a ton of research on this site before I did it. I replaced injectors, all the sensors, converter, flex plate etc. btw its a 88 GTA black with black leather interior. Should be fun to drive. Thanks again for the help.
