Re: Dipstick length

All transmission dipsticks extend about 2" past the end of the tube. Why do you think yours is wrong?

Re: Dipstick length

The distance between add and full is about that distance difference. I doubt being down slightly will cause the slippage you experienced. The fluid would probably need to be off the dipstick before you had a loss of fluid slip.

Total length of the dipstick or tube means nothing. How far does your dipstick extend past the bottom of the tube? It's unlikely the portion of the tube that fits into the case is different lengths from tube to tube. Once the tube is in the case, the dipstick will extend into the oil. The level will always be the same even if you have a deep pan. You could have a long tube and dipstick reaching to the top of the firewall or a short one that barely reaches to the valve cover and they should both show the same fluid level.

Since you experienced slippage after hotlapping, I'd say your oil was getting far too hot. Invest in a large aftermarket external cooler and if space is available, a fan for the cooler to aid in extreme cool down. You need to keep the tranny oil under 250* to keep it happy.
