Re: Finaly got the new motor
a little over 3g thats everything new except for crank and intake. even included another block with the machine work already done oh and his labor. IT's not realy a shop its a guy i was reffered to buy alot of people. he told me several times the he guarenties his work. He will also be there when I start it for first time. he wants to break in the cam. Wasnt a "shelf cam" custom grind.

They used to make taller valve cover gaskets for that. Don't know if they still do.... And wipe that plastic down with mineral spirits, should take that overspray off.

Yeah already ordered center bolt valve covers. And I'll try that for the over spray. Should have a vid posted sometime this week maybe Thursday.
Do you guys have any reccomendations on what I can use for a hot wire on my choke. Perferably close

Re: Finaly got the new motor
ok need your opions on what you think might be wrong. Ok so the guy came and broke it in...... ran fine. then the next day i went to start and the idle was down to 600 and when i tried to give it gas quick it will shoot flame out carb. at 2-3 grand it sounds fine. He set the timing with vacuum advanced hooked up. at idle it was around 10-12 at full vacuum around 36. So i gave him a call and gave him this information as follows.'
1. idle dropped raised it back to a grand
2. when you rev it up to 2 or 3 grand and let off gas it takes a little bit to come back to idle
3. give it gas quick and it throws flames out carb.
He told me it sounds like it retarded some how and i should check the timing. well now at idle its around 2-4 and 2 grand around 30 or so. I guess my question is could all of the above be from the timing. Also note that i hooked up the vacuum canister but was doing all this before install of that.

Re: Finaly got the new motor
Incorrect - timing needs to be set with vac advance disconnected, and line plugged. Otherwise it's adding it's bit when you are attempting to set the mech advance, and you won't be setting enough mech advance, = retarded timing.
You should be setting your 36 degrees at around 3000 rpm, then adding back the vac advance should get it up to 45-50 degrees on full vacuum, depending on where it starts pinging at WOT.
EDIT: Sorry, pinging at part-throttle acceleration. Pinging at WOT should involve little or no vacuum, if it does = too much mech advance.

Re: Finaly got the new motor UPDATE: need opions.
Ok guys I realy need some help. I went down to check on some things with my motor. Ckeck trans and power brake vacum lines not leaking. When I was trying to start it I threw out two flame ***** out the carb. Got it to run at three grand I was getting 36 timing and at idle was getting 12. Left it idle a bit at 1200 and twice it just started to die. Turned the idle down to 1g idle fine could give it gass no problem. So I held the brake and put it in gear went to 600 let it like that for a little put it back in park, went to give it gass and it spit raw fuel out the carb twice back to back. Then was idling fine. Put it in gear held the brake and gave it gass it was fine. Not sure what to do anymore still haven't got to drive the car yet. one guy was talking about the carb taking a crap. I have a holley 750 duel feed single pump. Bought it for my last motor it's about a yr old. What do u guys think

You mentioned break-in so assume this is flat tappet - hate to ask but are you sure break-in was successful?
Also - are you sure your timing marks are in the right position, ie lining up at true tdc.
