Dumb Dimmer rod frustration!
ok, after alot of research about the dimmer, i found my switch and rod still good working order, BUT the rod up on the steering column side is not hooked up and the plastic cover is dangling(not broke) from the tilt lever.
i can change brights and dims by pushing the rod with my finger right under the S. wheel, but its silly to do.
It is so frustrating that I can't figure out how this rod goes on the plastic thing on the steering wheel side?!?! its like a dumb trick toy you'd find at cracker barrel! I might need to see a picture of one hooked up correctly, I'm to dumb to figure this out!
PLEASE HELP?!

Yah, I have a new one from a 79 z/28 already and ready to go, but it's my last option, I want one last chance at keeping it stock, thanks for that though.
Anyone else want to take a crack at it?
PS which wires are they? Green, Yellow, and Tan I think? and what one goes where incase I go this route?

Re: Dumb Dimmer rod frustration!
There should be a small plastic doohickey that transmits the motion from the combination switch to the dimmer rod:
https://pontiworld.com.au/usgmsp/pro...oducts_id=5425
Sounds like that is missing - not sure but from memory if you can reach the dimmer rod with your finger, it's probably not there. Maybe that's why the outer side cover is off, removed by the po to get to the rod?

Re: Dumb Dimmer rod frustration!
I had all of those pieces and mine was still erratic. That is why I went with the floor mount; enough was enough.
And yes, I tried moving the switch a little. I've had the car completely torn down, and I mean completely so I wasn't going to lose sleep over going the floor mount switch. I need the switch to always work and thus why I went the floor route.

Heh - now you just gotta get one, and pull your column apart to install it - fun fun! Mine was missing too, and I went this route.
Or just go floor switch like torque said, much easier if you're not worried about original function.
