Another cam question

I have a 89 iroc 5.7l tpi that is smoking on start up. I am going to have the heads off to get the valves done, so I was thinking about getting a cam while I was at it. The car is pretty much stock except a set of headers and shift kit. Is there a cam I can get to give me a little more hp and torque without spending a fortune on the heads and intake?

thanks

Re: Another cam question

The heads are where you should invest your money. Easier to do the cam later than improve the heads later.
Start with the normal 3 angle valve job, then have them add a 75 degree bowl cut. Get a set of swirl polished stainless steel valves with undercut stems, then have the shop add 30 degree back cuts to them. I think this comes before the valve job.
Also have the spring seats cut for larger springs, and have the guides cut down to clear more lift. Then you can have way more freedom in choosing a cam.
Maybe something like this: http://www.compcams.com/Company/CC/c...?csid=207&sb=0 ?

Man thanks for advice. I going to have to do some research to know what exactly all that means, but you gave me a good starting point.
