i have a 91 z28 camaro v8 and recently after my car begins to heat up ill get this irritatic stuttering of rpms while stopped which usually ends in my car stalling. it only stalls while stopped never while actually in motion. the other day for the first time i smelled unburnt fuel inside the car, I put some fuel system cleaner in it and when i tried to start it today it wouldnt ignite the fuel. so im wondering if this is a cracked fuel line although the smell doesnt occur on the outside, or maybe the fuel filter or fuel pump? im on a tight budget and dont have the cash to be guessing

 

or its my fuel injectors themselves but wouldnt they all have to go out for the car not to start?

 

given what's posted - almost anything is a possibility:

Ignition:
Stalling while hot leads me a bad ignition coil - can be checked at autozone for free
Air control:
Stalling while returning to idle may be bad idle control valve - grab a can of carb cleaner and clean it out
Fuel:
A fuel filter is a cheap guess, not a bad thing to do if needed anyway
Fuel pressure: See if AZone rents a fuel pressure gage(not sure if they do) you can check for a bad fuel pressure regulator or bad pump - after you change your filter though.

that's where I would start - being that I too don't always have the $ to guess.

I'd start at the ignition system, and leave the fuel system alone.

If the ign sys isn't working on one or more cyls, then OF COURSE you're gonna smell unburnt fuel; the fuel system keeps right on going, whether the ign sys sets it on fire or not.

When was the last time it got a new cap & rotor?
