A/C compressor bracket

Not too long ago, I was reading a thread that included pictures of an engine accessory bracket that mounted to the front of the left side of the engine. There were two "legs" on the bracket; they mounted on the front two bolts of the exhaust manifold. The picture showed where the rear leg of the bracket was cut off due to an exhaust manifold swap. I have searched and searched, but cannot find this same thread. Now I am in the same position-on my engine the bracket is for the A/C compressor. There is a support rod that runs from the top of the upper bracket to the most-forward bolt on the center exhaust manifold. Just wondering if removing the rear leg will still supply enough support, taking in to consideration the other means of support, or if fabrication will be necessary to include the rear leg on the bracket.

Thanks for your help.

Re: A/C compressor bracket

I am having the Sam issues. I lost the brace your talking about and the one that goes from the top of the a/c bracket to the intake. I tried to run with out them and broke a grade 8 bolt off in the head. I switched the heads with aluminum fastburn heads but don't want the same problem. Where can I get them???? Please Help its all I have left to drive this beast.

Re: A/C compressor bracket

You might be able to get another bracket at a local junkyard. I had the same issue and was able to get the bolt closest to the front to line up, however I had to remove quite a bit of the metal where the rear bolt connected just to clear the header. IIRC, I also had to run a longer bolt to make up the difference of the stock manifolds and the headers.

Yours may differ depending on the headers you have. I never got around to trying to figure something out for the rear bolt so that would be something you would need to fabricate if you can get it to work at all.

Another option may be switching to a serpentine set up, but that also has brackets that are supposed to reduce fatigue of the main aluminum brackets.
