I just recently bought an 87 iroc from a friend of mine. the car starts fine and runs fine. it had a fuel leak in which i replaced as well as put a new fuel filter on it. The problem i am having is when i want to get on it to see what its got, the gar stalls, bogs, stutters, almost dies out until i let off the gas and then drive it normally. I have heard try replacing fuel pump, but figured i would throw the question out there and see if anyone here can help. Please help me figure out this issue?

 

Fuel pump is a plausible cause, hook up a fuel pressure tester gauge, should read in the 37 to 50 range, I don't recall what it is for TPI cars though, But I am wanting to say something like 43 or 47, should be around 40 I know that much, another thing you might try is taking a can of either and spraying it into the air filter while someone guns it, though it wouldn't exactly be safe... but if you know what you are doing you should be ok.

 

well like i said, it does idle fine and drive fine. its only when im putting the pedal to the floor and demanding the performance power when the car wants to bog down and try to die. i'm gonna try the pressure gauge this weekend and see what it says. thanks for the input.

 

never had that with my IROC, BUT i did have that with my 93 mark 8! turns out the fuel filter was full of dirt and rusty water....at idle it ran great, but if you really stepped on it, it bucked and jumped like something major was wrong.....new fuel filter and it has run great ever since.....worth a try!

Yeah, at least read posts by the OP, esp in a thread that isn't long and or filled with non important stuff, lol. But it definitely does sound like a fuel issue where the fuel system can't keep up.

 

it said a "fuel leak was fixed" was it a rusty line? if so could be blockage in the line??

it would help if the OP could find out from the person who "fixed the fuel leak" what exactly was done
