Preparation for proper Dyno Tune

Hi all!

I'm planning to do a dyno tune in the early next year.
Until then, I want to have everything prepared to get the best tune possible.

My setup:

-389 Stroker
-AFR195 #1040s /w spring upgrade
-Jones Custom Grind Cam ( 224/226 ; 0.528/0.535 lift at 0.50 ; LC 110° )
- Holley Stealth Ram Intake Manifold ; Fuel Pressure @ ~45-50psi
- Stock 2x48mm Throttle Body
- Stock Intake Tubing
- Stock , but descreened Bosch MAF Sensor
- SVO Red Top 30lb/hr Injectors
- Hooker Super Competition Headers+Ypipe
- gutted Cats
- Flowmaster 80s Exhaust System

Engine should have it's peak HP at around 6000rpm and should rev to 6500 max.

Hope there is no other necessary information.

The main questions would be:

- Should I buy a (Hydra)Rev-Kit or is it useless for my rpm goals?
- Should I use another Throttlebody / MAF / Intake components?

I don't want to have a single thing as bottle neck round my engine, money is not an issue, but I'd like to skip unnessesary modifications.

thanks in advance
Alex

Re: Preparation for proper Dyno Tune

Any idea what I could use instead of the stock Intake components.
Throttlebody is pretty clear to me ( BBK or Holley 2x 58mm ) but MAF and the Tubing down to the air filter....
Most cold air kits seem to be discontinued

Re: Preparation for proper Dyno Tune

I guess you would have better help in the TPI forum.

To dyno it you do not really need the hydra rev kit, though for German Autobahn application, I would personally investigate further, could eventually make it more reliabe, in time.

Check out the MPFI folks in the TGO California section, not sure they use a biggher TB on theyr 400rwhp cars.

I would thake it to the dyno as is, can always change intake duckting and TB a second time. At least you will know for sure how much they are effective.

Nice build sheet BTW, I will have to try it on the dyno symulator

Re: Preparation for proper Dyno Tune

Leave the stock MAF and intake tubing for now. The firebird/trans am systems werent as good as the camaro TPI intake systems but should be ok for now.

I dont think that cam will get to 6000 rpm peak but it should still do ok. its pretty mild for a 383. Surprised Mike went that small on duration for a 6000 rpm peak? Lift is very mild too.

With AFR 1040's with the spring upgrade (8019 springs) you will not need a rev kit.

Re: Preparation for proper Dyno Tune

Thanks Justin,

so I should be ok with a bigger sized TB?
On "Dyno2003" the engine will max out at ~5800-6000rpm , same engine (but carb'd) maxed out at 6000.
At the moment, the HP curve flattens at ~5000rpm.

Re: Preparation for proper Dyno Tune

52-58mm may help alittle but i'd see how much you can get out of it with the 48mm before trying a larger one. I dont think you turn the rpms to require a 58mm and not sure how much a 52 would give you over a 48.
