Please don't say the engine blew
So I'm trying to sell my 92 Z28 (350). I've not been driving it as often, only taking it up the road to a shopping centre to show it. It's not run well since I bought it, after new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, icm, cts, o2 sensor, fuel pump, seafoam, and other things I can't think of at the moment, it still misses and has a dipping idle.
At first fire, it revs super high before finally leveling out to it's unlevel idle...if that makes sense...lol (Shoots up to ~3200 rpm for 10-15 secs then backs off and wanders between 750 - 1100 rpm)
I drove it to the store tonight, and on the way there it ran as it always has.
It was parked for 20 mins tops. Didn't even have time to get up to running temp - the store wasn't that far.
Restarted it, and about half way through it's 3200 rpm "auto choke from hell", it let out a HUGE popping sound from the driver's front tire area.
Then came the knock.
The diesel engine knock that I've heard too many times in other people's cars - the knock I made fun of, saying "dude, you threw a rod".
Karma's a b**ch aint it?
Oil pressure was still normal. No irregular actions from the engine. I couldn't leave it in the parking lot without getting impounded so I practically coasted at idle to get home. Whenever I gave it gas, the knock speed increased, but seemed to get quieter -- but then again, it may have just been hidden by the hole in the muffler and the thousands of rattles and cracking sounds the body makes.
Got it home and left it in park for a min or so. The knock is constant. I'm PRAYING it's not a thrown rod, spun bearing, or anything of the sort. I really need to sell it, and can't get jack s**t for it with a busted engine.
PLEASE don't tell me I'm up s**t's creek without a paddle. I can't afford another repair bill on this demon. And I really don't have time to be worrying about it...
Thanks for any help.

Doubt it's a broken rod.
More likely a bearing. Check the oil. Does the noise go away when it warms up?

pull the valve cover. maybe its a broken valve or valve spring. check that first

where in FL?
has it always been a FL car?
I'll be in the market for another project vehicle because I'm delivering the 89 that i just restored. Yanking and rebuilding an engine and tranny doesn't scare me. Of course the acquisition cost would take into account the poor mechanical condition.

UPDATE!
The pressure system from the gulf is starting to hit us here, so I didn't open the hood up to check things out today, but I did fire it up. Still knocking / rattling, and a ridiculously strong smell of raw fuel.
