Fuel filter question:pulling fuse for fuel pump allowing engine to stall safe?

Hello all I got a 88 firebird L05 swap and getting ready to do my fuel filter and I was just wondering if it wouldnt mess anything up in the engine to pull the fuse from the fuse block for the fuel pump start the engine allowing it to stall and then do the fuel filter allowing for a easier change not getting fuel every where? I have heard of this but never thought of it.I usually just pop the gas cap off and get some rags. Just wondering thanks for the input.

It's going to bleed off no more than normal pressure at the injectors since they will continue to run.

The schrader valve on the fuel rail will do the same thing. I'd hook my fuel gauge on there and do it that way.

Fuse would work though.

If you relieve pressure at the schrader valve, you have to do something with the fuel that vents. If you pull the fuse, you don't.
