MAF check engine light, but that cant be
My check engine light comes about half the time, but not all the time. The code is a MAF, but i asked my mechanic who previously owned the car, and said that cant be because a new MAF was put on it less than 8 months ago. Im suspicious about the code because it only comes on sometimes. It effects my idle making it go about 500 and jumps up and down a little bit, but when i reverse out of my driveway when this happens, i really have to give it alot of gas, because the throttle seems to be less responsive when the light comes on. Any ideas of what this may be?

There are many post's in here about code 33, there can also be many reason's for a code 33, MAF sensor, MAF relays, intermitant wire fault, vacuum leaks, ECM. It can be a nightmare to find sometimes.

Read more posts on here about that code; you'll figure it out.
If you need to know what signal the MAF is sending back to the ECM, get a scanner.
He's right that 8mo. and normal mileage shouldn't make for a bad MAF.
Keep a clean paper air filter installed and it should last you a while. I wouldn't run an oiled gauge (K&N type) filter on a MAF car.
