who knows about boring and honing?? i dont

hello all!!! first thread here. i have been leaning toward getting my 350 bored for a while but never knew exactly how things worked or what i was looking at. lots of people get a .30 over bore but i want a .40 over bore making it a 357 like the magnum pistol (lol thought that would be cool). and i thought, why stop at boring?? so im looking to learn more about the bottom end of a motor and modifications to it.

how does boring work?
how does honing work?
what EXACTLY does the crank do?
rod lengths..longer or shorter?
types of piston heads and the differences..flat or dish?
what else is there to a bottom end?
what are common mods to the bottom end??

there is lots of knowledge up here so im hoping to take it all in. thanks all in advance.

Is usual to bore the minimum needed to clean up the bore, the more you bore the thinner the cylinder walls get
