oil pressure DROPS during take off....

92 camaro rs. 305 tbi. okay, just noticed this today. but when i take off, my oil pressure will drop almost to red before actually going to normal. and right before i parked my car earlier. i pulled into the drive and looked and it was at 0. then, my brother went drive it, and it went normal, except during take offs. normal idle, it'll be right below 30. taking off, almost red lines to 0, and then goes to the middle line after 30. until i stop. any idea???? bad sending unit? bad gauge? bad oil pump? idk. but, i have been having some problems with my gauges. but mainly my speedometer... and recently my gas gauge dropped ALL THE WAY past full and hit the dash bezel. then went to full a lil while later.... i think the cars just possessed.....

Re: oil pressure DROPS during take off....

I would hook up an analog oil pressure gauge to verify what your actual oil pressure reading is. Oil pressure isn't something you want to really just "hope everything is ok" with. If the oil pressure on the analog gauge is good, then it's either a problem with your sender or the electronic connection to the gauge in the dash itself. If oil pressure really is going low, then you may have to drop the pan and see what's going on down there.

Re: oil pressure DROPS during take off....

Okay, i checked my oil and it turns out i was 3 quarts low. Topped it off, and problems gone. Now its time to start saving major money to over haul this thing. Now that i kno its burning a lot of oil. Thank you all for your responses!!! Appreciate it!!!

not picking on you but just out of curiosity;

how could you drive a vehicle that you know consumes oil and allow it to go 3 quarts low?

You should have a couple quarts of Wal Mart oil in the trunk at all times along with a rag and funnel.

A couple? I had a '71 Cutlass that used a quart every 60 miles. I kept a case of oil in the back! A quart to and a quart from work. But I only paid $300 for it.

I have oil in the trunk. I was prepared. BUT! It has NEVER burned this much oil. Like itll be a quart to a quart and a half low at oil change. I guess its time to over haul it...

Also. I changed my valve stem seals. And since then its been burning worse. But. The o-ring, i think i put it on wrong. I cldnt put it on after the spring, so it went on befre. And as ive read, itll make a car burn oil bad doing that.
