electrical problem?

i have a 91 350 tpi camaro. runs good. but sometimes when i put it in drive , the car surges down, and feels like it wants to turn off. but it recovers quick and runs good after that. but when it surges down all the lights go down. they dim alot. my question is ,is this a electrical problem?

Re: electrical problem?

sounds like it might be a idle air control issue. I would check you timing with the est disconected set that, then check your minumin idle speed adjustment.

Re: electrical problem?

that is what i suspected. i took it out and cleaned it. but i never did minimum air adjustment. check my timing? u mean moving the rotor clock wise to get my timing up?

Re: electrical problem?

Yes, I was thinking the timing was retarded. Make sure you disconnect your timing plug with the engine off first. After that is tested or checked than pul the ecm into diagnostic mode and set the idle speed I believe its 450

Re: electrical problem?

you need to disconnect the timing est plug. Check you timing with a timing light on the number one cylinder.

Re: electrical problem?

if your doing it bye ear mark the intake and the distributor base with a permanent marker or nail polish so you can easly set it back if you need.

Re: electrical problem?

well i did it already. i took the intake air box off. it sounded like it was sucking lot of air, when i had the distributor at a even idle. then i turned it off connected the est connection. and one thing ive noticed was that it starts right up. b4 this when it was hot it would crank for like 3 secs before it started. i dint drive it around to test it fully. but its starting right up. i wonder if i messed up back then when i took my intake manifold off (becouse of oil leak).
