Car problems... (and there was much rejoice) yayyy.....
I'm having some problems with my '92 Rally Sport 5.0. Its got the Throttle Body Injection 5.0 liter V8, 132xxx miles, and it's been giving me some problems recently. First off, it's been hard to start recently (I turn the key and all I hear is the fuel pump, it doesn't even TRY to turn over), but I started it the other day with a batter charger's 50amp jump start and let in run for about 15min and gave it some revs and drove it a little and all seemed well, except that it seemed to be idling kind of high at just under 2grand, maybe 1800rpm. Now for some reason it won't turn over even with the jump start (I haven't tryed it from a vehicle yet so we'll see). I'm thinking it might be the battery, gonna let it sit for a little while and then jump start in with my dad's truck. I plan on doing a seafoam treatment to help it run better and to fix any vacum leaks. Any insight to these problems would be very welcome. Thank guys! Ladies...
Re: Car problems... (and there was much rejoice) yayyy.....
basic questions must be covered
when you turn the key to on, do the lights on the panel come on?
When you turn the key to start, does the starter even try to engage? Do you hear any clicking?
Do the lights work and the horn goes beep beep?
Have you tried to start it with the gear selector in neutral?

Yes

Nope. Not fast and not slow. Have had no signs of the starter going out.

Horn doesn't work (nothing new), but the lights do work.

Yah. That didn't work. The starter cylinoind isn't even inguaging. I'm gonna take a look at soem fuzes and see if one of them is fried.
Re: Car problems... (and there was much rejoice) yayyy.....
yes, try a different battery. Do not simply try a jumpstart because your battery may be drained. You can use jumpers to connect from battery A to the battery cables on your car
does your security light- light at all?
VATS was bypassed on my 89 and is tuned out on my 95

There's about 3 fusible links in the wires to the starter solenoid.

It was actually a disconected wire under the dash (doh!). But the battery was pretty bad so I got a new one from O'Reilly's with a 3 year warrenty. The old one only had 450 cold start amps (Doh!). The NEW one has 690! I had to do allot of stuff before looking under the dash and noticing the wire (a green one and a yellow one that weren't connecting). Put them in a wire nut and installed the new battery and it starts up 10X better then before. AND it idles at 900rpm now as well. Not sure why replacing the battery fixed that. NOW though the hood wont close (DOH!). If it's not one thing it's another...

glad to hear it's running. As you deal with the little things you'll be discovering all that's been mickey moused over the years. You'll better understand your car and know how things work
I just had to go through tracing wiring in my daughter's boyfriends car. Mickey Mouse worked on that too.
