Installing Pilot Bearing

I am going to be installing my pilot bearing into my motor soon. I bought the one from Forte's parts for my TKO600. Is there a certain way the bearing goes in or can it be put in either side first? Also, should I install it until it bottoms out and can't go any further?

Re: Installing Pilot Bearing

It should go in either way, all the way in. If you dont, the the inputshaft will push it in as you tighten the bolts, you dont want that to happen.
Use a socket just alittle smaller then the size of the hole, then tap it in till it stops.

Re: Installing Pilot Bearing

Assuming its like a standard pilot bearing (and not the big lakewood one), it should be installed until it sits flush with the inner surface of the crank, or just a little below. You dont need to counter sink it all the way in. If you bottom it out, you may end up only partially engaging the input shaft, which is bad.

Re: Installing Pilot Bearing

When I put mine in, the only one available was the big one by lakewood: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/LAK-15975/ that goes where the torque converter snout sits.

When you put it in, make sure it has some grease if it doesnt already, but dont overgrease it. Too much grease will lead to clutch contamination since it will migrate out onto the flywheel when the bearing heats up.
