Loud Noise At Acceleration

Ok so I just got a 88 Iroc 350 TPI yesterday, the guy i got it from says that it needs a new donut gasket... Now I've noticed that when I accelerate there is a loud roaring noise that seems to be coming from under the hood towards the back of the engine. The noise sounds alot like an exhaust sound, it sounds similar to what you would hear at the back of the car at the tail pipes when you accelerate but it is at the front under the hood.....

My questions are:

- What are somethings that might cause this noise under the hood when i accelerate?

- Could the bad donut gasket cause this noise under the hood?

- What symptoms would a bad head gasket cause?

Please Help Guys, I want to get this fixed asap!!!!

An exhaust donut goes between the exhaust pipe & manifold. Get the car safely up in the air, start it up & figue out where its leaking. These exhaust leaks can be tough to do at home because it usually takes a tourch to heat up the nuts on the manifold to get them loose.

So you think it is an exhaust leak near the manifold.... It doesn't sound like a donut gasket?

You have to figue it out, jack up the car or take to a shop to get it up in the air, run it & find the leak.

No, an exhaust leak sounds like a tick, tick, tick ,like a Vw bug. LOL and it gets faster as you accelerate

Again, exhaust leak at the manifold would be a ticking sound.

Yep, sounds like the donut gasket is burned/blown out.
Replace it with a solid metal donut gasket and new stainless grade-8 bolts.

Re: Loud Noise At Acceleration

A ticking noise is more like a manifold itself leaking, and a small leak at that. My guess would be a bad donut gasket with the sounds you are describing, like ex fire said, you need to get under the car with the car started up, you will be able to hear it much clearer and also feel the air coming out of the area where the leak is. Again be careful, and you will more then likely need a torch to remove the hardware.
