Bet most of 'em just have something simple wrong. The old 'blown head gasket' is the usual conclusion jumped to by those who couldn't be bothered doing any actual diagnosis, and just want to offload a car they have no idea how to fix. I've gotten a couple of cheap ok cars this way (not third gens).

Re: Fixing blown head gasket

Half the time you can just run some 'head gasket repair' stuff through it if it is still running, just to be sure, give it a good tune up and call it good if you are just going to flip it around for a few hundred bucks.

Re: Fixing blown head gasket

tree fiddy is right. most non mechanicaly inclined people go with the "its just got a blown headgasket" line when trying to offload a car they 1) have no idea how to fix, 2)took it to a shop and were told its more money to fix than the cars worth. a blown headgasket wont keep a car from running or driving or any other issues other than possibly contaminating the oil or causing it to overheat.
