After putting in my new 383/tko600 combo, my car seems to be shaking/vibrating a lot more than it did with the old motor. It shakes from going slow and continues to do so the faster I go. It shakes through the steering wheel as well. What should I look for? I added polyurethane motor mounts, but I doubt they would cause it to shake this much.

whered you get the 383? did you build it yourself and or have it built?
some 383 cranks need a 400sbc (external balance) flywheel/flexplate and dampner for correct balance.

Is the shake there just idling in park?
Does the engine have a misfire?

I don't believe it is a misfire. The car will shake at idle too. I did build the 383 myself. It has a eagle 383 rotating assembly.

Your flywheel is wrong. (unless summit has it listed wrong)Originally Posted by 85Iroc-Z

Its listed as external balance and everything else you have is for internal balance.
Did yo have the machine shop balance it all or did you just install it all????
I bought the rotating assembly as a whole kit that was balanced together. The flywheel is listed as external balance, but I belive that it is still correct because there is a lot of confusion with the 86 and up 1 piece rms flywheels. A lot of companys list thm as external although they are actually not. Also, the shake at idle is actually a very small amount/ normal. It definetly gets worse the faster you go which is making me look more at the driveshaft now.

with it shaking at idle and moving, its not the drive shaft. youd have no shaking at idle and only when moving. its the wrong flywheel.
Its not the same kind of shake at idle. The one im referring to is when im driving at a higher speed. What confuses me though is if it is the flywheel, why didn't it do it on the old motor which was also internally balanced?
