Engine sputters and dies at speed
You guys have been great in the past, helpin me out with my '85 Z28 w/ LT1 swap, that car has since gone and now I'm tinkerin around with an '88 Sport Coupe. Orignally 305 TBI now carb'd 350. Here's my problem....car will start and run great, idles smooth, even when I'm driving it around the block (low speed, 15-20 mph) it runs and shifts great, the problem comes when I get on it or even try to get up to what would be normal highway speeds, it sputters and sounds like its missing, when I come to a stop it will die. It will crank, start, and die almost instantly, to get it running again, I usally have to put my foot to the floor.
Here's what I know about the car as I got it in trade. As I said it was a 305 TBI and previous owner swapped in an older carb'd 350. When I got it, it wouldn't run at all, after messing with the timing and carb I eventually got it running but it ran like crap. I swapped the Quadrajet with an Eddy 1406 I had lying around and wouldn't ya know it runs like a top. The previous owner had also installed two generic Mr. Gasket fuel pumps, one by the tank and the other underhood wired to a switch in the dash with no regulator. I removed both pumps and replaced the dead in tank pump with an OE piece for a TBI and installed a bypass regulator (Quick Fuel pn# 30-899) and press gage. I'm running about 5-5.5psi at the carb (gage is mounted on carb inlet). I did consider hooking up a timing light, but there are no marks or even a pointer on the timing cover or damper, so I timed it by ear. I figure this has got to be a timing or fuel issue but I've looked at everything I know and went back and checked again and I'm at my wits end!!! I'm pretty sure it's something simple I've overlooked but Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
Btw, I drove it around the block just now and was goin uphill, it almost died on me!!! Even puttering along at 10-15 mph, I was sweatin it and reduced to a crawl and finally made it. Just a lil more fyi

I've got another 1406 on an '80 Camaro I know without a doubt works great, I may swap those carbs just to eliminate the carb as a problem. The carb I put on was off a Road Runner and worked fine, but maybe something got into it when I put in on the 'Maro.

Re: Engine sputters and dies at speed
Was a timing issue.....corrected timing, now it runs great.
