Just call a local police department and tell them your buying a car and would like them to check the VIN to make sure everything matches up and its not stolen. I do this everytime i buy a car.

 

the reason i want it is to see what actuall year and the stock engine it had so not much.

91 was sposd to have a 3.1L... well i heard around town that mines a 2.8L and im so frickin confused

 

Just post the vin # here and someone will decode it for you.

 

I noticed the 2.8l in your sig a few days ago and figured that the 3.1 went bad and was swapped for a 2.8l engine.

Look at the VIN through the windshield, the 8th position is a T for the 3.1l engine from the factory.

The 10th position is the year of the car, M for a '91. N for a '92.

To check if the engine is the original is a little tougher, but doable. On the passenger side of the block, right above the motor mount is the VIN derivative. The last 6 digits should match the last 6 digits of the vehicles VIN. If so then it is a 3.1l engine and is the original.

The year of the engine is the 2nd position of the VIN derivative. Again with M being a '91 and N being a '92. I would assume that you could go backwards through the alphabet for the previous years.

Would need to do that if the VIN on the block doesn't match the vehicle VIN. The '90 - '92 MPFI f-body's got the 3.1l engine.
