Engine build questions
Okay, im worried about my 305 and my bro knows some really cool people whos gonna GIVE me a new engine. Only problem is that its all apart. Which im okay with. At least ill know the gaskets n stuff r good. Haha. Well, its a 1993 350 block and pistons. With 80 something heads tht have been recently reworked. Do i buy 1993 head gaskets? Or it really wldnt matter??.... And, since im going carb, i wanna do away with the elec fuel pump. I wanna put a crank with the lobe for a mechanical fuel pump, how do i go about doing so???
Currently, on the shopping list:
Victor reinz head gasket set, for a 1993 350
Head bolts, same year
Edelbrock 7101 intake manifold
Accel 59107 distributor
Also, its a 92 rs.
THANKS!

Re: Engine build questions
Unless it is a LT1 engine you buy parts for a 350 Chev engine.
A 350 is a 350 is a 350
BUT there were important changes to SOME parts in '87 ( not involving gaskets )
than mean some early parts won't fit later engines.
See intake fitment problem below
Is listed for < '87 heads so you will have to drill the 4 center holes out so it fits late heads
Why?
Lobe is already on the camshaft; not crank.
Block may not have hole drilled for fuel pump pushrod; need to check

Re: Engine build questions
I honestly dont know the difference between an average 350 and a lt1. I think its just the 350. I love the carbureted feeling, and i want the entire experience and dnt have the cash for a low pressure pump or a good regulator. I actually found a low pressure pump, tho. For $45. Its mr gasket from autozone, but i dnt know how good itll be. My 1992 305 block has the spot for a mech pump, but i was told after a certain year the took the lobe out. I was also told it was on the crank. If the mr gasket pump is good, ill get that. But i dont want to keep replacing pumps. Haha
Thanks for your quick reply!!

Re: Engine build questions
But some blocks that had EFI had the pump pad for pump cast but the hole through it was not drilled out. '96 + Vortec engines a example

Re: Engine build questions
Just read entire post. Some reason i went over some stuff. What do u mean about drilling out holes for intake? Would it be better just to get a different intake? And another question i just thought of. With it being 80 something heads, how would my alternator and stuff mount up? Would some have the holes on the heads? Or do i for sure need to get new brackets?

early intakes more common and cheaper than late ones
need to check ,not all early heads have all the holes drilled
Would have to get the setup from early car with those style heads;setup may not fit your engine bay

Re: Engine build questions
Thanks for ur responses! I just talked to the guy, and he said they do have the holes, and he saved me some money, he told me he also has an intake manifold that will fit those heads, and a gm quadrajet 4 brrl carburator hes gonna give me. So thats $100 somem dollars saved for that. With that, ill probably get either a holley regulator, or the holley blue pump i think it is. Its either the blue pump or the red one. I get em confused... Haha
