Re: cleaning up engine bay?
what I did with mine was I cut it all off about an inch from the firewall and pushed all the wiring back into the firewall and then cut a nice big piece of 22gauge and make a delete panel that cleans the passenger side of the wire wall right up.
showing the unpainted picture as its a lot easier to see.

the self tapping screws around the trans well and top right corner of the panel will be hidden from view but even still being painted in high gloss black and 2 coats of clear coat they dissapear quickly! used the factory screws that mount in a straight line on the top left side of the fire wall. Using seam sealer I coated the panel along the edges and about 4-6 inches towards the center of the panel to give the panel a good bond to the firewall when screwed down tight.
Looks clean and leaves no ridges or seams of any sort

Re: cleaning up engine bay?
yea... I deleted everything as I dont every EVER plan on being out with the car after end of november nor being out earlier than the last drip of snow and muddy water run is done crossing the roads. There is no need for me to have heater or AC as I rarely drive the car anywhere other than an evening cruise or to car shows or local muscle car gatherings... so it made sense for me to cover it all.
However if you did a template like this it would still work as you would still cut out the area your blower motor bolts to

nope.. everything bolts onto the firewall from engine bay.
In my picture above where you see the row of bolts at to top left of the panel? There are about another 3-4 bolt holes that I covered up because I wont need them. At least for now.

Well.... what I did was... you see that gromet down close to the frame where all the wiring goes into??? I cut mine all off about 2 inches from the firewall and then pushed the gromet and all wiring through the hole. I did this so that in the future if(most likely not) I ever sell the car... the new owner will have the option of rewiring an A/C back into the car. The blower motor however is a different story... I had to bend the flared side down flat with the rest of the firewall to be able to put the whole panel down flat.
