Re: Jumping Shifts
sounds like your tranny mount may have broken. thats just by going by what you said. if the whole stick and everything is literally bouncing up. that or your braces that are right under the center console (under the car itself) are loose. start there

Trans mount
Very easy to change out, takes longer to crawl under the car than to do the work
Cheeeeeeeep too, a stock one is like $12

Re: Jumping Shifts
make sure you get the good polyurathane mount, not the cheap one. or you will rip it apart with ur TQ. but yeah tranny mounts are easy, you dont even have to take anything off accept the old mount

Granted, you can tear up just about anything if you try hard enough, as evidenced by the OP's situation; but ... "necessary" is a bit of a stretch, if the OP isn't dead-set on tearing it up like his car's PO apparently was.
One thing you might run into however, is the legendary "fluid-filled" or "hydraulic" mount... it's no longer available, and if you find it, will be just STOOOPID expensive. However, its crossmember is different, and doesn't allow you to use the $12 version; but you can just get a regular one at the junkyard and do away with that, and use the regular mount.
