TPS problem fo 91 Z28?
TPS problem fo 91 Z28?
Hi,
I have a 1991 Chevy Camaro Z28 with an LT1 Engine, transmission w/shift kit and BBK 58mm throttle body. All this was done by the previous owner. Recently, my car would stop accelerating (RPM would not increase) while I'm driving; and if I pressed down on the acc i would smell something burning.
I was told it was a TPS problem. If so, what kind of TPS do I need to get? Do I get a standard TPS for a 1991 chevy Camaro 5.7L? Or according to the modification above, do I get something different.
I am very ignorant of this; please advice.

We need more info.
Post a pic of your motor.
If its truly a LT1 motor you may have a opti-spark issue.
check the fuel PSI

sounds more like the iac, you might want to post a picture of the thorttlebody, the tps and iac on tpi vs 93-97 lt1 look totally different
Re: TPS problem fo 91 Z28?
Here is the picture of my engine and the TPS.
A mechanic told me the problem is the TPS, but my TPS is modified, so he does not know where to get another one.
Any suggestions?

install it your self there is no adjustment needed on this year. I wouldn't waste your money on a inexpensive tps you get what you pay for.

Thank you for the clarification. Again, I am ignorant and I appreciate your input. The ebay TPS and the one I have looks different. Did you see second pix i posted? it is a bit blurry but it appears different. Thank you.

The angle of the lt1 tps is different it also has a small plug ACDELCO 213-894 , What is different in yours that the first pic. Are your holes elongated in the tps like 85-89 adjustable tpi tps ?
Re: TPS problem fo 91 Z28?
Attachment 233453Attachment 233453You know what, I think it is the same or at least similar.
I got confused with the orange connector and the wiring.
I was told my a mechanic that it was specially modified. Was he wrong? Is that just a normal TPS and connector/wiring?
So I also attached a better pix of the inside.
So, you are saying it's not a LT1.
My car is a 91 chevy z28, so what kind of engine is that again?
And I also found this: http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...questid=108748
Will that work as well? Thank you.

Re: TPS problem fo 91 Z28?
That tps you listed for autozone is correct. I just don't like to take risks on electrical parts is why I suggested a known oe quality part. Guys here have gone the cheap route only to replace it weeks later.

Re: TPS problem fo 91 Z28?
you can do it your self there is no adjustment needed. disconnect you battery while you are doing it to clear any codes. looks like you might want to replace the tps weather pack connector looks kinda hammered and moister could have caused the failure in the first place.

Re: TPS problem fo 91 Z28?
I also have a TPS issue. I removed the old unit and the throttle shaft sprung closed, the new unit will not go on unless I turn the throttle to a 1/3 open position. Is that where it is supposed to be. Will it change when I reconnect the Battery? This is one a 1991 GMC 454. I have been having missing issues on deceleration and on uphill driving. Any advice would be helpful - Thanks.
