Re: 91 firebird headlight acting funny

Probably not. There are 3 little plastic discs inside that eventually break up and need to be replaced. Take it apart and check. You can get them from Top-downsolutions.com.

Re: 91 firebird headlight acting funny

That's a super easy fix. Like Base91 said, it is the plastic bearings inside the casing that are crumbling up. It takes about a half hour and seventy-five cents to fix.

Re: 91 firebird headlight acting funny

I think the kit from TDS is about $10.00. I bought 6 inches of 1/2 inch diam delrin from Tapp plastics and sliced of 7/8th inch lengths of it as replacements. Took a little bit of filing but it was very cheap. The 6 inches cost about a dollar I think.

Re: 91 firebird headlight acting funny

I just went to the local Home Depot and got three ball bearings. IIRC, they were 3/4" bearings. Opened up the case, poured out the powder (which used to be the plastic bearings), put the new bearings in with some lithium grease and slapped it back together. I did the passenger's side last year and the driver's side about twelve years ago and its still working like a champ.

Re: 91 firebird headlight acting funny

I like to make and fix things myself and save a few bucks here and but... If you can't be bothered then for $10 or so and a couple of mouse clicks you can sit back and wait for them to be delivered to your door step. But you could buy a couple of beers instead... It's a tough decision.
