Teflon tape and Gasoline

I've experienced issues with an AN to fuel pump leak. An hydraulic hose shop told me that any kind of imperfection might lead to a leak and suggested Teflon tape (wrapped well away from flow). A net search led to many opinions. What's the general consensus here?

I'd replace the fittings.

Can't speak to the question of "consensus", whatever effect that might have on the reality; but...

The threads don't seal. The flare & seat do.

Unless you can find some way to put Teflon tape on those parts, putting it somewhere else "well away from flow" is nothing but a placebo. Might help keep threads from corroding together and seizing, but has no effect on sealing.

To eliminate the problem in the short run, I threw in an Edelman 721660, which leaked as well, though not as badly. Currently, a Dorman 785-408 is in place to good effect. With both, however, the line to the carb is rubber, which I'd prefer avoiding.
