305 tbi.

Engine starts for a second then dies down and stalls. Will do it repeatedly until I give it gas. If I give it gas it starts and stays running. Adjustable fuel pressure reg is set at 13psi.

Does it occasionally and the fuel pump is primerimg. Fuel pressure at tbi is good as well. Ideas?

 

Spray some sort of starting fluid in it to see if it will keep running. Fuel pump may be in the process of going to the great salvage yard in the sky. You seem to think it's fine... but who knows.... may as well check.

If that has no effect pull a spark plug and watch for spark.

I had something similar happen to mine when it was stock... the CTS plug had disintegrated and wasnt making a good connection. see if you can play with that plug (hold it on tighter or clean it up... jiggle it, etc) and see if it makes a difference. There's a temp sensor that goes to the gauge and there's a coolant temperature sensor in the intake manifold taht goes to the ECM. If that sensor is failing it will tell the ECM it's -270F outside and the ECM will rsepond by dumping TONS of fuel into the car... (cold engines need a richer air fuel mixture) leading to the stalling situation. Holding the throttle blades open willl counteract the massive overfueling and keep it running.

Go play with that CTS plug on the front of the intake manifold.

Just a few things to try.

I'd also make sure you dont have a big vacuum leak somewhere.

 

Running ebl flash everything is within spec

The car will start and run with a tap of the gas. I can shut it off after that and it will start fine by its self. Its weird. BLM and INT numbers don't show anything out of the ordinary all within spec. Good power and what not.

Any other advice? Steady fuel pressure. Thinking its the pump too but it does prime. Ideas?

 

I've got a similar problem as you, it happens every now and then. I start the car and the rpms jump up like normal, but then fall really low, and sometimes it dies. Haven't had a chance to check the fuel pressure on mine yet. Mines also a 305 TBI, tried cleaning out my IAC, didn't make any difference.

Was going to check fuel pressure on mine, and see if that was my issue(at least that was going to be my course of action). I'd also test it a few times, rather than in one sitting. Do it in the morning after letting it sit, then take it out for a while, test it warm, then let it sit a bit, and then try it again. Anyways, lemme know what you find, it might also help me out.

 

I believe its fuel related but I could be wrong. Hoping someone had a more concrete answer. Like i said its intermittent. Think I might be losing power to the pump but I doubt it. Idk

 

My 1990 Camaro 305 Wont start, i can hear the pump running. but no gas gets to the tbi, can someone help me?

 

i kinda had an issue like this when i had my dakota, turned out to be the iac. you can pull it off and try cleaning it at no cost and it cant hurt

 

I'm also having this prOb on my 88 350 tpi I'm popping up code 14 which I looked up an it was the cts I'm changing mine out tomorrow an seeing if this will fix the prob praying to the trans am gods that it will lol
