My 400 SBC Engine Build
So the parts are ordered and starting to come in! It is getting close to time to yank my stock L98! I decided to make this thread to chronicle the fun. I am swapping to a carbed 400 and plan on detailing the process on this thread. SO far this is what the engine is gonna have in it:
400 SBC .020 over
Scat 9000 Crank and 4340 Rods
Speed Pro 616CP Pistons
Pro-Filer 210cc 2.08/1.6 heads with double wound springs
Comp Cams 12-246-3 Cam .490/.490 230/236 @ .050
Weiand Team-G Single Plane Intake (PN 7530)
Holley 4150 750 CFM Double Pumper
Crane HI-6R Ignition box
MSD Pro-Billet Distributor
Hedmen Shorties
Thanks to quite a few people that I have bought parts off of. I hope to have dyno numbers w/i the next month.

Re: My 400 SBC Engine Build
Is that the CC306 cam? The CC306 cam is a great cam for 350, as many members are happy with it. I would think it might just be mild in a 400. I used a 230/230 cam in a N/A 355 and it's shift point was at or just above 6000.

12-246-3 is the PN. Comp recommended this cam and for what's its worth it worked the best in desktop dyno. I am open to suggestions though as I am not ordering the cam for a few more days.

Re: My 400 SBC Engine Build
First thing I thought too...way undercammed.
I ran the Comp XR288HR (236/242 .520/.540) in my old 383 and thought it was just about "right". Ran a best of 7.42@92.89 in the 1/8th. 4.11s in my 9", at the time I had a TCI Streetfighter converter in the Th350.
That 400 is gonna want to breathe man, and the Team G and those heads will be great. You'll have plenty of torque given the cubic inches, I say make it run great on the big end...more cam!

The cam actually installed in it now is a PRC cam from JRMotorsports.

I thought it might be too much for the street but I am tempted to try it.

I am looking at cams now. I gotta stick with a hyd flat or a solid flat to stay in budget. Down the road ill get a roller setup.

Re: My 400 SBC Engine Build
are you milling the heads or using a thin head gasket? 4 valve relief pistons usually give low 9:1 CR
