Davis Unified Ignition Module

Hey all,

Does anyone have any experience with the Davis Unified Ignition Module for a remote coil TPI/TBI distributor? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/DUI-000444/

I'm getting ready to swap out my Cap and Rotor for MSD units, as well as adding some Mallory 8.65mm wires, and I'm already running an MSD coil. I'm looking to replace the ignition module while I'm in there, if nothing else than for reliabilities sake.

I had some nightmares in my TBI Suburban with over the counter AutoZone modules, NAPA Echlin Modules, and Accel Modules. All of them crapped out in a relatively short time and left me stranded several times. So far, it seems like the only ball game in town is a replacement AC Delco module, but I've also read good things about the DUI products. Do their modules have the same reliability and failure issues as Mallory/Accel/PerTronix Modules, or are they better? I want something that's at least as reliable as the factory Delco unit, because frankly, I NEVER want to get stranded by an ignition module again.

Thanks!

Re: Davis Unified Ignition Module

I bough one. so far two of them die as soon as they are warm and will not restart. (on my second one - warranty replacement. going to call Davis unified and see if they have any answers. car runs great when it runs. otherwise I had less than 1hr of runtime out of the 1st one and never ran for more than 20min without a problem. Put in an AC Delco - fires on half a crank. car is faster with the DUI unit though, I really noticed it, but reliability sucks big time so far.. bummed it doesnt perform as advertised. I know this is an old post just wanted to update and if Davis Unified has a solution I will share it.

Re: Davis Unified Ignition Module

Just to make sure we are talking about Part Number 000444 8 pin module. maybe their other parts are fine. Many of the aftermarket modules are absolute junk. MSD uses AC Delco stock modules in their pro billet distributors for a reason.

The real issue is, there are real performance gains through improved dwell/curves over the factory GM design. Just nobody seems to be able to do it reliably. I hope there is a solution. I was running a MSD blaster coil, maybe they dont play well together? who knows. In reality there is a reaon why it's not working, and good engineers (if DUI has any)should know why and be able to tell me how to make it run right. But an aftermarket product should perform at least as well as the original on all measurable criteria (perf. reliable,etc..) These should be an install and go type of deal, hard to make excuses. DanClemnts - glad you haven't had any issues.

Another problem is vendors these days switch where they outsource stuff all the time, maybe you had an american part and the new ones are chinese? who knows? to be continued.
