About three years ago before my son was born my car started acting funny and brought it to a mechanic and he said the computer crapped out. I havent had the money to take to a mechanic kinda worried it might cost an arm and a leg. But i really would like to get this back on the road and driving again. Can i do pretty much the same to get rid of the computer so it would be just a regular old muscle car without the computer?
as far as I know this is the first year they have puut computers in the third gen and its the ccc computer.

You can do that, it's not terribly hard to do. Just replace the computer controlled distributor with a vacuum controlled one and swap on a non-computer controlled carb. We did this on an 82 z28 we used to have, I used a Holley Street Avenger carb and a distributor from a 79 Camaro, it all worked well. I also swapped the stock intake for a Holley Street Dominator intake to match the carb.

 

Do you have to pass a visual emissions test in MA? If so, it'll fail without the computer controlled carb and distributor.

Other than that theyre's no reason you couldn't do it.
