84 T/A Engine Wireing
Finally got my first third gen and love it, but have a question. I bought a 84 Trans am and the guy swapped a 350 4 bbl in it with HEI. The motor is locked up on it (got a good deal on the car
) and im gunna pull the motor out and re do it but i noticed the wiring under the hood is just butchered and used to have a/c and that is all cut off. im gunna put another 350 4bbl in it without the a/c of course and was wondering where could i get a good harness from and which one. painless? keepitcleanwiring? salvage out of another firebird? any help would be much appreciated thanks

All right if you want to spend $$$
For a carb engine only you need a wire to HEI ,starter and the wires for gauge sensors.
Could rewire what you have to tidy it up seeing as you are not using a lot of the stuff in the factory harness

Since it's a 84, you can easily remove the ENTIRE computer harness, INTACT, without cutting ANYTHING.
Start by removing the right kick panel inside the car, and the right inner fender well. You will find a U-shaped plastic clip thing on th einside, around a large square connector. Remove the clip. Pull the wiring out through the hole. Pull it up into the engine bay. Trace every wire that comes out of it and unplug it.
The wires that come through the firewall on the driver's side are all required.
The harness that comes through the firewall right behind the pass side head is the HVAC. The green wires are the AC. You'll need the others for the blower. The vacuum line in that harness works the doors under the dash that route the air to the windshield, floor, etc.; you'll need that line.
I STRONGLY recommend that you CUT ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Forget that there's even such a thing in the world as dykes. Unplug, remove, and put it all in a box; may come in REAL handy someday, as it did for me for example, when I moved to California some years back after doing just what you're doing. I was able to put th ecar back to fully CA emissions compliant, and actually GET TO DRIVE IT. Without that harness, that would not have been possible.

That I'm not sure of.
At some point, they changed the nature of C100, and put a bunch of the ECM wiring over there instead. Don't know the year.
You can look and see: if there's a big fat harness coming out of your pass side fender right by the blower motor, then this instruction would apply.
