Motor input

I have a 1994 5.7 (Truck motor) thats pretty gunky, and I suspect it will need a rebuild once I pull the pan. Just for planning ahead, take a loot at what I've decided.

I'm probably changing plans a bit and using a t-350 than a T-5. I'd honestly rather go faster by investing more in the engine than go fast and break my trans and be s.o.l on a bunch of money. Lots of guys I've seen use Northern Auto Parts for rebuild kits with very good luck, thats a fact.

If the cylinders are any good, I can get away with this $137.00

Includes:
  • Perfect Circle stock style Piston Rings
  • Federal Mogulstock style Rod Bearings
  • Federal Mogul stock style Main Bearings
  • Victor stock style Gasket Set
If it needs machining, this kit goes for $217.00
http://www.northernautoparts.com/Pro...tModelId=26429

  • Silvolite stock style Pistons
  • Hastings stock style Piston Rings
  • Federal Mogul stock style Rod Bearings
  • Federal Mogul stock style Main Bearings
  • Melling stock style Oil Pump
  • Victor stock style Gasket Set
Thoughts? That leaves a cam, intake, carb, exhaust, and head rebuild to have a fresh motor.

Not sure where the T5 comes in. Your userinfo says you have a TH700. I would never take out a TH700 and put in a TH350 unless the car was trailered to the track.

Do you already have a 5.7 TPI in the car? If so, the heads from the truck engine are very poor in comparison. They would be better than 3.1 heads, though.

Northern sells decent parts, nothing special. Note they reserve the right to change brands on you, one of the ways they keep prices down.

What I've seen on these 90's truck engines more than anything else is failed rod bearings. I would have the crank checked very carefully, everything cleaned very thoroughly, and for sure use a new quality oil pump.

Cam depends upon whether or not the block has been machined for roller lifters. And what the engine you currently have really is.
