Mods: What do you think?

I decided to go with some simple mods to clean up the look of the engine, and compliment what I've done with the rest of the car (New interior, body Kit, soon to be new paint job, and soon to be 18" Black Boss 338 rims). I'm not trying to get a crazy amount of power out of my 305 TBI as it's not going to be a race car, but a few extra horsepower doesn't hurt (what gains am I looking at from the following parts btw?). What do you think about the set up?

Open Element Air Filter- Edelbrock Elite Series # 4207 http://static.summitracing.com/globa...e/EDL-4207.jpg
Edelbrock Valve Covers Elite Series # 4246 http://static.summitracing.com/globa...e/EDL-4246.jpg
Short Hedman Headers # 68470 http://static.summitracing.com/globa.../HED-68470.jpg
Hedman Y-Pipe # 17478 http://static.summitracing.com/globa...ed-17478_w.jpg
Magnaflow High Flow Catalytic Converter # 93456 http://images.magnaflow.com/02product/parts/93456.jpg
Magnaflow Cat-Back System # 16829 http://static.summitracing.com/globa...pe-16829_w.jpg
(plus just some good old cleaning and repainting of the engine/engine bay)

Could I add a Edelbrock Performer TBI intake # 3704 (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EDL-3704/) without having to mod the chip? Would it even be worth the money?

My other question is what would a pair of stock 081 heads do me in comparison to the stock 187 heads I have on it now, and/or a better Cam (like LT1)? Would I need to do anything about the stock chip if I switched just the heads to stock 081's? If so is there any easy/cheapish way to update the chip for the type of set up?

Thanks in advance for the replies!

PS: Haven't put the parts on the car yet, just ordered them yesterday...should start the swap on march 3. (I can let you know how it goes if any one is interested and do a before/after pic and sound clip.)

Dual snorkel would be better. This will suck hot underhood air into the engine.

Fine. Hopefully won't be as prone to leakage as the factory stamped steel covers.

I'll defer to the TBI 'sperts, but I would think the exhaust alone will put you into chip mod mode.

Just the heads most likely wouldn't cause a need for chip reprogramming. But, they would help over the 187's if combined with cam and exhaust improvements and custom chip tuning.

I ordered it because it was in my price range, and it's what I wanted regardless of peoples opinions. That last sentence makes me sound angry about what you said about the parts but it's chill, I just can seem to word it in a way that sounds how I mean for it to, lol.

Anyways I agree with some things you said it was just out of my price range/know-how/or I just didn't want to mess with doing it the other way. I wanted something that would be a bit easier to install. Anyways, Thanks for responding! I appreciate you doing a break down like that an answering all my questions.

About the Duel Snorkel, I don't like the way it looks. Yeah I'm shallow, I know. If it helps I'm getting a 180 thermostat to go with the chip I just bought from TBIchips.com ebay shop. I know some people think they arn't the greatest chips but I have no interest in making my own, and if it doesn't run right I plan on returning it or having him tune a custom one. Just seeing how it turns out.

I guess I just don't have any one to share my enthusiasm with getting new stuff for my car so thats why I made the post. I think if I talked to my girlfriend about it for another second she was going to explode. lol. No but she just has no clue what I'm talking about (not that I do either I guess!) lol.

Anyways, Thanks!

Re: Mods: What do you think?

Ended up returning these (They arn't emissions legal):
Short Hedman Headers # 68470 http://static.summitracing.com/globa.../HED-68470.jpg
Hedman Y-Pipe # 17478 http://static.summitracing.com/globa...ed-17478_w.jpg

Re: Mods: What do you think?

I actually posted the before and after pic seperately, (at 3 in the morning) but I should have posted it here instead...regardless of that I will post them here as well.

We actually put a new (stock) alternator and chrome thermostat cover on since taking the picture, but other than that its the same.

I wasn't aware headman made emissions legal headers. The only ones I'm aware of are Dougs, Hooker and Edelbrock.

Re: Mods: What do you think?

Yeah, there is even a ceramic coated version but I can't remember the part number. They work really well though, and aside from the fact that it was a "difficult" project, we didn't have any unexpected problems with the headers or hooking them up right.
