Daytona Trans Am won't run!

Hey, i have a 1983 daytona trans am with a 350 and as the title says above it will not run but it has been ever since i put a holley carb and intake on it -_- it's fouling plugs like crazy (5 minites of running) and once there fouled it will not run anymore, i've rebuilt the carb and went through it 5 times! and everything is correct and i also rebuilt the distributor and still does the same then. i now have a plug in for the power valve and i've tired other coils and ICM's and still nothing. Would lash adjustment do this? i've also set that 3 times. But once the push rod is brought to 0 lash it seems really hard to turn maybe it's just me. maybe not the right size rods?

Engine specs:
LM1 350, Domed pistons, 882 heads(Bad, i know)
Holley 600 Vac sec, Holley street dominator intake,
Clevite's 229-1993 cam, 480 lift at valve and 232 duration at .50
and thats on both intake and exhaust.

just sputters and then dies and on different days it will run then not idle and one day i got it to idle. then it fouled plugs and wouldn't start after i shut it off. timings set to 13 before top dead center. no vaccum leaks.
sometimes it will back fire through carb and exhaust. very wierd. this car is very depressing..

Yup, it's a HEI, vaccum and mechanical advance distributer.

Re: Daytona Trans Am won't run!

Was it originally a CFI car and if so, is it still running the stock fuel pump?

Re: Daytona Trans Am won't run!

Floats are set one 8th of an inch from the site hole and the needle and seat are brand new just put in but i put the old one that use to work back on just to role that out. i bought the holley and intake from my buddy and his dad builds motors. the carb was taken off a running engine. and my 350 was running really good before i put them on. had a q-jet and aluminium corvette intake on it. Also i put the plug in just to role out the power valve, going to buy the right one when i get the engine running enough to tune and put a vaccum gauge on.

Re: Daytona Trans Am won't run!

thottle bodies can usally take a bit more psi then carbs, think i might just go drill some holes in the butterflies so i can let the butterflies down more, must be getting to much fuel from the transition slots. also my idle mixture screws do not work. wont change th idle at all. anywhere you set them.
