87 iroc camaro wont start/turn over
I have an 87 Iroc 305 stock that will not turn over to start. Did have an audiovox aftermarket alarm but I uninstalled that. Other than that the car is stock everything. I turn the key and all of the gauges/lights come on, however when I try to crank it no noises are made, just dead silence. At first I thought it was vats, however through extensive research I realized 87 didnt come with vats.
I got the car towed to a mechanic and as soon as he turns the key it starts, go figure. Me thinking everything was good, I get in the car and drive it home. When I get home I keep cranking it every couple hours or so to make sure it cranks and it does. However the next day when I go to crank it again its back to the same problem, no start/turnover.
Battery is good, I checked the fuses/relays in the dash and under the hood and theyre all good, ground cables look good. I changed out the ignition switch and still nothing. Havent checked the starter solenoid/wires going to starter yet, about to do that in a few. Does anybody have any other suggestions as to what it could be other than the starter?

check the starter! the next time that b*tch doesnt want to start, tap the end of the starter! not the starter! with a light hammer (requires 2 people, 1 to turn key 1 tapping starter, but you can do it! by yourself!)

Re: 87 iroc camaro wont start/turn over
Update: Tapped the starter and it wouldnt crank. Wires looked good. Now the fuel pump won't prime and none of the electrical components in the car work. Before my car completely crapped out on me sometimes the car would sputter from time to time and the check engine light would come on and when I gave it gas it wouldnt accelerate at all. When I was pulling my dash/interior out to paint it I disconnected my ECM, its plugged up now but now it won't start and sometimes the electrical components in the car wont work when the key is in the ignition. Starting to think maybe the ECM is faulty now, would that cause the car not to start? Any help/sarcasm would be greatly appreciated

Since you said you had an alarm make sure the wires are completely deleted from your loop

Im pretty sure I got all of them, usually alarms are only spliced into the cars power wire going into the dash, and that was the only factory wire that I could see that was tampered with. I pulled the alarm out and reconnected the wire and I was getting power to all my gauges and lights again. However, now the car is completely dead and not getting any power to anything (ie gauges, fuel pump priming, lights, nothing) Feel like Im losing my mind here

try and twist the battery cables... some times if they are loose they will corrode and loose connection.

Re: 87 iroc camaro wont start/turn over
I rechecked the terminals and I swapped them out and that was it to get the power back on...Its always the simple things that get me, I guess thats what I get for being young and stupid at 23 lol
After I got power back on I found out that it wasn't an electrical problem at all, the ignition switch wasn't being pushed all the way back when I turned the key and it wasn't engaging the starter, once I pushed it all the way back with a screwdriver it fired right up. I figured it was going to be something simple like that, I'm just glad I figured it out before I got it towed to a mechanic, because that wouldve been a waste of money and I wouldve been pissed to find out thats all it was. But thanks for the help you guys, I really appreciate it.
