Problem with throttle response
The last month or two I have noticed rather poor throttle response, but only at times. The engine had power to spare but it would have a delay, jump and continue to have a choppy acceleration. At times there was no problem and it would accelerate perfectly smooth. I replaced spark plugs and it helped but it doesn't feel like a misfire. Today I went to start it just after I got home. The engine was warm as it had ran for about 20 minutes about a half hour earlier. It started easily and ran for a few seconds then died. I started it again and it had such low rpm that i had to press the gas slightly to keep it running. It wanted to die if I let off. The fuel filter is literally non existent earlier this month I jacked the car up and followed the fuel lines straight to the engine. No filter anywhere, I even asked my mechanic and he lifted it and couldn't find one. Anyways as far as I know it still runs but what is the problem any ideas?

Re: Problem with throttle response
I have the cross-fire injection system not a carb. If anyone with this setup could direct me to the fuel filter that would be great.

Or if you have any other ideas on what the problem could be let me know.
Re: Problem with throttle response
I had the same problem with my 86 trans am. They have a filter on the fuel pick up in the tank. The breather on my gas tank clogged up and it pulled the filter over the fuel line so it would only pull fuel through one small spot which quickly got very dirty and wouldn't let much fuel through. I had noticed that when I took my gas cap off it would suck a lot of air as soon as I cracked it. Anyway I put a new breather on, dropped the tank cut the filter off and put an inline filter on it, no problems since.

Re: Problem with throttle response
The fuel filter should be located on the driver's side frame rail just forward of the LCA. The fuel pumps were known to grow weak over time, so if the pump hasn't been replaced recently it may be worth looking at.

Re: Problem with throttle response
The fuel filter is surely not in-line. Nowhere to be found along any part of the frame all the way from the tank to the engine bay. I found a site that talked about 2 of them located under 1 inch fittings on the throttle body. I found what I believed to be them and cleaned them up with a solvent. It helped a fairly decent amount and really livened up the engine but I still have yet to fix the throttle response issue. I can assume it is the fuel pump. How much time should I expect to invest to drop the fuel tank and do the replacement?
