Re: white scale
May be moisture from the air or engine in the past I have blasted the inside of mine with wd 40 and wipe it out leaving a film on the inside. Living in the rain forest creates a moisture problem. Supreme Member

I really don't know about a vented cap but the ionized air sounds very interesting is the timing on the money and how old is the cap.

Re: white scale
Sorry it took so long to get back to you I was working on my car.All I can think of is some kind of arcing inside of the cap. If it was my car I would check out the rotor and cap very closely. Drive it for awhile after the wd40 and see what happens.

Re: white scale
I would make sure the rotor is being pushed all the way down onto the dist. shaft.

Re: white scale
I am still here just got off work. Looking at my book today and there are a few things that can be adjusted inside that dist. There is an air gap between the pickup and the trigger on the shaft under the rotor. I haven't been very much help but a book on that engine would be real helpful for you. There is also a capasitor wrong spelling that I could not find what would happen if that went bad. Re: white scale
The rotor is down as far as it will go and this distributer is only 1 year old. The capacitor you refer to is (I think) a condensor that was used with a points type ignition to stop deposits from building up between the point gap.

Re: white scale
I remembered something today, one time I was working on a boat and when I pulled the dist cap it kinda looked like what you are explaining and it was a bad coil. Now I am not saying buy a new coil but in the books for these cars it tells you how to check. The spark was to weak to jump across so it was jumping up and causing the white scale.
