I have an 88 Iroc w/a 350 TPI.. BASICALLY STOCK..
Ive so far installed
Hedman long tube headers
Custom Y pipe (basically runs straight back) no cat
Flowmaster (dummy dual)(came w/ car)
8mm spark plug cable
msd ignitor (no module or box)
Have a posi rear end(disc brake) not sure of ratio yet

Wondering what i have so far and if its enough to smoke
my uncle who has a 91 T-Bird S/Ç

 

Not enough.

 

They are good for 15.5 to 16.5 depending on the driver. Also most people tend to shift at the redline and that is not good on those engines to little top end.

 

Planning on doing a shift kit and 2400 stall converter
3.42 gears (DD)
Think bout getting a chip but dont wanna buy an over the counter chip.
unsure were to get it done..

Also thinkin about adding a water methanol kit.. not sure if that would work

Ready the DIY PROM section for a chip. Don't bother with meth unless you boost.

 

Be a man and do a Yank SS3600 stall, 3:73s, A custom PCMforless tune. Then go have fun.

 

Its rare that a person will mod one of those but there is one around my area that runs in the 11s. They are out on the streets people.. becareful

See if you can score some cheap underdrive pulleys. Even if they dont prove to be very reliable day to day, you can throw em on for the run.

They're good for 2-10hp or so. Nothing huge, but its an easy way to get a little extra power.

 

What does he have done? Is a new pulley a bolt on? Stock for stock you should take him.

 

I think he has pulleys, dual exhaust, maybe a chip

 

If he is increasing boost that thing could be a rocket

They weigh about the same. But by your logic you would not prove anything by beating a TTA (fastest thirdgen) or a GNX.

 

There is nothing to prove.. Just a big mouth to shut..
And starting there isn't bad.. It'll all be up hill from here.. lol (quoting a movie DUE DATE)

 

Hate to break it to you but, the SC will eat you for breakfast lol. I own A Super Coupe and they make stupid power at any RPM and if it has any kind of mods it will be long gone. I love my third gen but it is not fair to compare the two. The Bird makes 15psi @ 2000rpm.

 

With what supercharger I cannot imagine the M62 version would like 15psi much. I know the M62 gets really hot going over 10 on the 1MZ 3.0L V6

Not sure I would call 210hp stupid power. Their stock figures are on par with a stock TPI and a little slower than the TPI on the 1/4

 

M62? its an M90 btw and it make power instantly. it is a blast to drive. I'm not trying to cause a war but...... the Bird is hands down quicker. Period.

 

I thought some came with a M62 eith way stock they boost at 12psi make about 210 hp and about 310 tq

Looks like they are a bit slower than a stock TPI on the 1/4. Looks about on par with my stock solara. Probably quicker from a roll.

With Automatic Transmission: They run between 15.7 to 16.0 seconds at around 86-88 mph.
With Manual Transmission: They run between 15.4 to 15.7 seconds at around 88-90 mph.

 

Just thinking about it 12psi on a 3.8 those are some low power numbers my friends camry put about about 270 and 270 on a 3.0 at 4psi.


That car must either have the worst engine management ever or some of the worst heads ever created. I am guessing it is similar to the mustang 3.8 that makes 140hp so 70hp out of 12psi is just bad.

 

So back to one of the og questions.. What do my #s look like
And am I missing/forgetting something.. How much of a difference
would it make to get SLP intake runners?

K&N filters w/ custom ram air (cut holes in the box)
Underdrive pulleys (bbk)
58mm t-body
Air foil

 

I have been in one of those t-birds before. The car handled like a toilet and wasnt very stable in a straight line or a turn. The stock IROC will destroy that car on a track with turns.

 

Just an update..

We went out to the track and not only did I smoke my uncles T-bird s/c but I smoked my cousins aswell. Both of them are S/Ç's. Also smoked a T-bird 5.0 and a Mustang 5.0.. All family so it made it that much sweater..

 

Which track?

 

Willow Springs.. West of Rosamond.

Next 1 will be on the 14th... I had the only 3rd gen that day.

Dont know if it'll make a difference but its only an 8th of a mile.
